— music collection organizer software

Version 3.1.1

A MusShell shell is a integrated combination of pictures, lyrics, and other information
about a CD or about any other series of songs. A shell often houses its own copy
of the music as well as the software for playing the music and for editing the shell itself.

MusShell can:

  • Build original shells, suitable for burning onto CDs (complete with music).
  • Adapt CDs created by other music-collection software into shells without re-burning the CDs.
  • Link music that resides on a CD to pictures and information that reside on your fixed disk.
  • Organize shells into libraries by themes and subthemes.
  • Present your libraries in a special Music Explorer, where you can browse and can search by more
than 50 predefined criteria, plus custom-defined search criteria of your own.
  • Incorporate information from the Internet-based CDDB music database and from a local FreeDB.
  • Browse and search in the local FreeDB.
  • Build a soft shell for an audio CD straight from FreeDB without needing the audio CD itself.
  • Add further information (such as pictures, lyrics, and even new music) to an existing shell at any time.
  • Copy full information about an album or song from one shell to another.
  • Export MP3 files, with meaningful filenames, to standard MP3 players.
And many other useful functions.

Heap (traditional) mode - you can explore your mp3 files, play them,

      advantages of MusShell interface and features;

fan and pictures in the Player page.

2.1.6 from 2002/09/25

   - CDDB and FreeDB support added, for building audio CD shells.
(FreeDB may be downloaded from http://www.freedb.org)

Automatic audio CD recognition is now built into POrganizer.
For any audio CD inserted into the CD drive, the base
information search is performed in the local FreeDB database
first (if one exists). Then if necessary, and if a connection
to the Internet exists, the search is performed in CDDB/CDDB2.

Base information on a CD includes album name, artist, song title,
and sometimes additional information as genre and year.

   - The new program DBExp is the FreeDB Explorer. You can use it to
find information about a CD, and then (by pressing the “BUILD”
button) you can build a soft shell for the CD without
yet having a copy of the CD itself!

   - Copying and propagating information is now easy in the Music
Explorer. You can copy and paste album information and
song information from one shell into another.

   - Presentation building is a new feature, allows you to construct
an audiovisual program that can include songs, song fragments,
pictures, and texts in a pre-specified sequence.

   - MusShell’s remote control for WinAmp has additional buttons.

   - Editing in the Organizer has been improved.

2.1.5 from 2001/08/28

   - Better cataloguing of shells (thanks to the new program Rcv):
        * multiple cataloguing
        * saving of cataloguing options

   - Improved and extended CDAss program (MusShell settings):
        * many options of the MusShell software may be viewed,
          changed, and saved

   - New function and button in Music Explorer:
        * “Adjust Shell to Audio CD” -
You may have a MusShell audio CD shell, and have the
corresponding CD, but find that when you insert the CD,
the shell is not automatically retrieved. The reason
may be a CDDB key mismatch, particularly if your CD is
a reprint manufactured by an obscure company or if it is a
backup copy. The “Adjust Shell to Audio CD”
button is for informing MusShell which shell really
corresponds to the CD. Once informed, MusShell remembers.
